Dr. Tong Si is a professor of synthetic biology in Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Si received his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and Biology from Tsinghua University in 2009 and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Huimin Zhao. He was an IGB fellow at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology for his postdoctoral training under the guidance of Profs. Huimin Zhao, Jonathan Sweedler, and Wilfred van der Donk, before he joined SIAT in 2019. His group is interested in integrating synthetic biology, robotic automation, and high-throughput analytical approaches to address grant challenges in human health and sustainability via fundamental and applied research on microbial biochemistry. He has published more than 20 papers in esteemed journals including JACS, Nature Communications, and Metabolic Engineering, and his work has been cited for more than 1300 times (H index=17) according to Google Scholar. By 2019. His select honor and awards include National Outstanding Self-Funded International Student (2014), Baxter Young Scientist (2017), and "1000 Young Talent Program" (2019).
