Dr. Guangkai Bian is a Principal Investigator at the SIAT, CAS. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Wuhan University in 2017. His research program is anchored in synthetic biology, with a specialized focus on terpenoid biosynthesis and microbial biomanufacturing. By integrating two core technological pillars—enzymatic mechanism elucidation/engineering and microbial chassis development—efficiently utilizes C1/C2 feedstocks and organic wastes (e.g., distillers' grains) to produce high-value terpenoids and fungal engineered living materials (ELMs). This research provides critical technical foundations for carbon-neutral manufacturing, waste valorization, and the next generation of bio-based materials.
