Jiahai Zhou, Professor, obtained the bachelor degree in 1993 from the Special Program for Young Gifts in Nanjing University, the Ph.D. degree in 2000 from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After five-year postdoctoral training in University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Jiahai returned back Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to work as a principal investigator. In 2020, he joined in Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the 100 Talent Program from Chinese Academy of Sciences (2008), the Wuxi AppTec Life Chemistry Scholar (2018), and the Program of Shanghai Subject Chief Scientist (2019).
The Zhou laboratory is mainly focused on studying enzymes in natural product biosynthesis, synthetic biology and industrial biotechnology. By using structural biology, protein rational design, directed evolution and other biophysical method, we are interested in enzyme structure determination, mechanism characterization, and the correlation between enzyme engineering and enzyme catalysis. We will also use the artificial Intelligence and high-throughput screening platform to design and engineer key enzymes related to synthetic biology.
