Diagnostic Proteomic Methods

Proteins in the circulatory system can
provide important information about an individual’s health. For example, blood,
plasma, and serum are the predominant samples used for diagnostic analyses in
clinical practice. The development of mass spectrometry-based high-throughput,
accurate diagnostic proteomics methods has great advantages for the purpose of
finding biomarkers for diseases such as tumors, neurodegenerative diseases
etc.. However, MS-based plasma proteomics is extremely challenging because of
the high dynamic range of protein abundances. Therefore, in order to analyze
large cohorts, there is a need to develop improved methods for high throughput
and accurate serum proteomic profiling, which will allow for biomarker
discovery and other improved diagnostic applications.
