Prof. Xiang Gao is currently serving as a Principal Investigator at the Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT). Dr. Gao earned his PhD in Microbiology from the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the guidance of Prof. Chen Yang. Subsequently, he conducted his postdoctoral research at both the University of Chicago and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). He joined SIAT as an associate professor, the primary focus of Dr. Gao's research group lies in the design of semiconductor-biohybrid systems, which integrating the merits of living cells and semiconductor materials, have the potential to shift the current energy-intensive chemical production system to a more sustainable one by offering efficient solar-to-chemical conversion. His works were published in Nature Sustainability, Nature Chemistry, and Science Advances etc.
