ASBA Online Seminar
ASBA Online is a seminar series that serves as a platform for scientists within the Asian Synthetic Biology community to share their latest research findings. The initiative was conceived by the four founding members of the Asian Synthetic Biology Association (ASBA)—Dr. Liu Chenli, Dr. Akihiko Kondo, Dr. Cho Byung-Kwan, and Dr. Matthew Chang Wook—with the inaugural seminar launching in July 2024.

The platform is currently managed by five ASBA members: Dr. Ho Chun Loong (China), Dr. Chen Xixian (Singapore), Dr. Adison Wong Choon-Kit (Singapore), Dr. Nam Kyu Kang (South Korea), and Dr. Kenya Tanaka (Japan).

ASBA Online has featured speakers from across Asia and beyond, including researchers from China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Germany. The seminars cover a broad spectrum of synthetic biology research, encompassing both basic sciences—such as synthetic cell research, protein engineering, and AI-driven technologies—and translational applications in medicine, bioprocessing, agriculture, and cosmetics.

Held on a fortnightly to monthly basis, each seminar runs for one to two hours and includes live interactions between speakers and attendees. The series attracts a global audience with an average live attendance of 30-40 participants per session. Seminars are also available on streaming platforms such as Spotify, making cutting-edge synthetic biology research accessible to the scientific community, students, and the general public worldwide.
