Shenzhen, China
The inaugural mLife Research Conference 2024 successfully concluded on November 5-7 in Shenzhen Guangming Science City, bringing together nearly 300 distinguished scholars from over ten countries including France, Germany, Brazil, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Austria, the United Kingdom, and China. This global gathering featured vibrant discussions across 12 microbiology-focused themes, exploring cutting-edge developments and future trajectories in microbial sciences.
Co-organized by the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of CAS, and Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology, with support from Southern University of Science and Technology and Shenzhen University, the conference established a high-level platform for international scientific exchange. The event was chaired by an esteemed committee comprising Dr. Li Huang and Dr. Wei Qian from the Institute of Microbiology, CAS; Dr. Jizhong Zhou from the University of Oklahoma, USA; and Dr. Chenli Liu from SIAT, CAS.

Throughout the three-day program, the conference featured eight parallel forums that gathered leading microbiology experts, mLife Journal editorial board members, and emerging young researchers. These sessions showcased pioneering work across genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology, biodiversity, ecology and evolution, as well as metabolism and physiology, presenting both significant research outcomes and forward-looking disciplinary trends.
Notably, the conference emphasized fostering mentorship and collaboration between established scientists and the next generation of researchers, creating unique opportunities for cross-generational academic dialogue and international partnership.
As the flagship conference of mLife Journal—a high-impact publication sponsored by the Institute of Microbiology, CAS and partnered with the Chinese Society for Microbiology—the event demonstrated its commitment to disseminating frontier research worldwide. Moving forward, the mLife Research Conference will continue to serve as a premier platform for global microbiologists to share breakthroughs, stimulate innovation, and advance international cooperation in microbial sciences.
