The initiation ceremony was held at 19th China Hi-Tech Fair by Shenzhen Association for synthetic biology on November 16, 2017, in order to promote academic research and exchanges in the field of synthetic biology, to connect enterprises and scientists in the relevant field in Shenzhen closely and future enhance the comprehensive competitiveness and both the local and abroad influence of Shenzhen synthetic biology industry.

People’s Hospital, Huang, Jiandong,
professor of the University of Hong Kong, LIU, Chenli, director of the Synthetic
Biology Engineering Research Center (CSynBER) of SIAT,
DAI, Junbiao, researcher of CSynBER, HUANG, Weiren, lab director of Shenzhen
Second People’s Hospital, WANG, Bo, vice director of Shenzhen
Huada Life Science Institute, National Gene Bank, and association representatives
from other institutes are all on the platform to witness this significant
moment representing the initiation of first high-tech association, Shenzhen
association for synthetic biology, facing towards the synthesis biology industry.
Previously, on the new field of synthesis
biology, Shenzhen did not establish any relevant association, problems need to
be resolved by efficient communication and solution. For example, the lack of
communication between research team and the government, weak connection towards
enterprise, lack of communication between local and foreign peers, out-dated
management, technology force diffusion, the controversy of public safety of
research findings and so on. However, the establishment of Shenzhen Association
for synthetic biology can close this gap. By uniting the strength of many
experts and scholars of synthesis biology, open up the innovation integration
chain of synthesis biology from fundamental research to industrialization, the
association contributes a lot to the long term development of the promotion of
the entire biology industry in Shenzhen.
Shenzhen Association for synthetic biology
is joint launched by 9 companies and 56 members included SIAT, Shenzhen Second
People’s Hospital, Shenzhen Huada Life Science Institute, South University of
Science and Technology of China, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School,
Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Alpha Feed agriculture and animal husbandry Co.,
Ltd., Shenzhen Teng Lang renewable resources development Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen
Bo Rui Biotechnology Co., Ltd.. Their goal is to embrace the further
development of the academic research and communication of synthesis biology, to
improve the research of synthesis biology, to connect domestic enterprises with
scientists of the relevant field closely, to bring up the overall competitive
