Jie Luo, Ph.D & Professor. Our primary interests are in understanding the synthesis, regulation and the function of plant-derived natural products. We are also interested in the genetic basis of the metabolic diversity and its role in adaptation and evolution. This research impacts on other fundamental aspects of biology such as gene expression regulation, function diversification of enzymes, signal transduction of external/internal stimuli, interactions between different pathways etc. My group works with both model crop plants such as rice and tomato, and tropical plants such as coconut and pepper, using a wide range of multidisciplinary approaches including genetics, genomics, metabolomics, cell biology, protein and small molecule biochemistry.
