Versatile manufacturing by synthetic biology
One of our lab’s current interests focuses on versatile manufacturing by integrating the synthetic biology and polymer engineering. We have developed a platform to integrate the bacteria lysis and separation by combing the engineered bacteria and stimulus-sensitive polymer. Based on this platform, we are further developing a miniaturized device for versatile bio-manufacturing, and also assembling the multi-enzymes evolved bio-chemistry reactions to produce the functional biologics.
Living functional material fabrication
Another direction of our lab’s research is to achieve the living material fabrication by the engineered bacteria. Living material are green and self-healing by nature. We are integrating our knowledge and tools in synthetic biology, polymer chemistry& physics and protein engineering to create the living material. These materials have controllable and diverse functions, including but not limited to catalyzing reaction, processing environmental pollutant and recycling heavy metals.
